Thursday February 23rd 2012 Guest MC Rich Wall Opening act: Steffen Peddie, Returning to stand up after a 8 year break as a Pro Wrestler has found Steffen a little older, wiser and bigger than before, but still ready to find the lighter side of any subject or audience member thrown at him. Prior to his time away Steffen had been performing for several years in the North of England. An original member of Newcastle Upon Tyne’s "Near The Knuckle" team with such luminaries as Anvil Springstein, Vladamir McTavish, Gavin Webster and Ross Noble, he brings a different approach to whatever venue he performs at. With Ross Noble, the two wrote and performed sketches on ITV’s children’s Saturday Morning show Gimme 5 for a season as well as doing a health and fitness show called Burst! for ITV as well as numerous regional shows in the North East. Now back doing stand up he is one of the regular comperes at the Funny Bones chain of clubs in the North East as well as getting booked as either a 20 to 30 minute slot or as MC in other clubs. He is the worlds first Fat Mime artist and has recently won the Literature North East’s "New Word Order Slam" Comments overheard "A fresh emerging Geordie talent" - Metro Newspaper "He holds the audience's attention throughout and leaves the stage with me wanting more." - BBC Tees' Karen Slater "The Big Man of Northern Comedy" "One of the North East's best comedy comperes" Newcastle Evening Chronicle "Steffen Peddie, the worlds Greatest Comedian, Wrestler, Scout Leader and fantasist of his generation" Anvil Springstein. Middle acts: Peter Marshall and the Lomos, Penella Mellor, Headliner Anvil Springstien, Born in Liverpool, Anvil left school with no educational qualifications whatsoever - and seeing a future of limited job prospects, promptly ran away to sea. After seven years before the mast, surviving hurricanes, typhoons, tempests,tornadoes... and the odd sunny afternoon, Anvil washed ashore off the coast of Portugal and spent the next two years living in a tent whilst traveling around Europe: "No rent, no council tax, no bills... fantastic... oh yeah... and very wet". Bored with culture and damp clothing, Anvil returned to jolly old England and "blagged" the first of two further education grants: "I loved being a student..." says Anvil, "...saved so much money on soap!" Does he have any 'tips' for future University students leaving home for the first time? "Yeah... get yer mam to buy you one of these 'indicator toothbrushes' and throw it in the bath. After a few months, when the colour runs out, it's time to clean the bath!" Following his degree, Anvil fell into various "dead end jobs; Barman, Social Worker, Journalist, Teacher etc'." It was at this low ebb in his life that Anvil, out walking, decided to toss a coin: "Stay in teaching? Or follow a career in stand-up comedy and writing?" Fortunately, for students nationwide at least, comedy won out: 'I remember it was a sunny day. I tossed this old fifty pence piece so high I couldn't see it... I was looking up squinting, mouth agape, when it returned to earth - lodging in my windpipe. The ambulance driver said he'd never laughed so much in his life - so did the nurse, the doctor, my GP, my family & friends, my dog, my bathroom... everybody! The biggest career decision in my life - and it only cost me fifty pee!" Thursday March 29th Opening act: Scott Agnew: The newly crowned Scottish Comedian of the Year 2008 is a regular at Jongleurs, Ha Ha Comedy & The Stand comedy clubs. As both an act and a compere Scott Agnew has worked alongside some of the biggest names in the industry including IF.ComEddie winners Brendon Burns and Phil Nichol, thrice Perrier nominated Reg D Hunter, Mock The Week's Frankie Boyle and BBC Radio Scotland's Fred MacAulay and has never looked out of his depth in such esteemed company. He has also helped to relaunch the The Stand's monthly gay night's "Oot" with BBC Live Floor Show's Craig Hill in 2008. His ability to connect with the crowds put infront of him and befriend them for his time on-stage has marked him out as one of Scotland's finest comperes. His easy-going, laid back manner and friendly approach to stand-up allows him to lull punters into a false sense of security and spin yarns of general sexual misadventure that the audience never thought they'd hear the like of when they left the house that evening Middle acts Nathan Hudson, Kate McCabe Headliner Nick Page, Nick Page got into comedy for a bet, he's still not sure if he's won. He turned professional 4 months after his first open mic appearance, helped by working with Steve Coogan's 'Baby Cow' production company and an approach from the BBC who needed someone with a knowledge of property and a bit of life for a new series. That offer turned into 3 series (so far) of 'Escape to the Country', which attracts daytime audience share of over 30% and has moved to prime time as well. Despite gaps in his gigging schedule caused by filming, Nick is performing all over the country, and is at home compering a rowdy Friday night comedy club as he is doing a one man show at a corporate event His material is a surprising mixture of cynical observation and storytelling, drawing on his useless degree (International Politics and Far Eastern History) and inability to do a proper job (he was an estate agent but is mostly cured). He is quite tall, some would say very tall, but that may be hyperbole. His brother holds the record for throwing a Wellington boot (292 feet) "a huge dose of likeability with some very clever material" Bath Chronicle. "the funniest thing I've seen all year" Mitch Benn "managed to combine a ready wit with his extensive knowledge" The Stage " a curious and enquiring mind in the body of a white rhino" Silky " a very fine man" Jo whiley, Radio 1 " the icing on the cake" Citizen |
